# Manage projects

> Structure Nubis projects so environments, teams, and cost ownership stay clear from the beginning.

## Projects are the working boundary

Projects are where workloads live. They help you separate infrastructure by environment, product, team, or customer while keeping billing visibility and operational ownership easier to understand.

## Common project patterns

### By environment

Use separate projects for `dev`, `staging`, and `prod`.

### By product

Use one project per product when different teams own separate delivery and operating cycles.

### By customer or business unit

Use separate projects when isolation, reporting clarity, or delegated ownership matters.

## Recommended project workflow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose a naming convention">
    Pick project names that make environment and ownership obvious, such as `payments-prod` or `core-platform-dev`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Attach the right team">
    Grant access only to the operators and developers who need to work in that project.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep related resources together">
    Place compute, storage, networking, and supporting resources for the same workload in the same project where possible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review cost and risk boundaries">
    Use projects to keep spend ownership and blast radius manageable.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What belongs in the same project

* Application instances and their attached disks
* Supporting VPCs, firewall policies, and load balancers
* Storage resources primarily used by that workload
* Environment-specific monitoring and operational resources

## What usually should not

* Unrelated products with different owners
* Development and production workloads that need different access models
* Temporary experiments that should not affect shared visibility or cost reporting
